Super Bowl 60:
The 2026 Super Bowl was the diamond anniversary of the Super Bowl. The rematch was between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks in Levi Stadium in San Francisco. Last time these two teams met, in the beloved Super Bowl 49, there were many iconic moments such as Jermaine Kearse’s catch that put the Seahawks on the goal line with 26 seconds left in the game. But then one of the biggest blunders in Super Bowl history happened, when on the one-yard line Russel Wilson (the Seattle Seahawks QB) stepped back and threw a slant that was intercepted by the Patriot’s Malcolm Butler.
Now we get to this year, after the New England Patriot’s Mickey Mouse schedule and the Seahawks’ absolute domination of all of the NFC. The Seahawks were heavy favorites while the New England Patriots came into the game with an underdog mentality. Leading at the helm were Sam Darnold, the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft class, and Drake Maye, a second-year quarterback from North Carolina who finished second in MVP voting.
The Seahawks came into the game with one of the best defenses in the entire league. The Seattle Seahawks had stars like Devon Witherspoon, rookie sensation Nick Emmarowari, and absolute beasts on the D-Line in Leonard Williams and DeMarcus Lawrence. The Patriots, on the other hand, had stars like TreVeyon Henderson and veteran receiver Stefon Diggs on offense to counter the Seahawks nasty defense.
So, after Charlie Puth’s amazing performance for the National Anthem and Green Day’s disappointing performance, Super Bowl 60 officially started. Let’s be completely honest the first half was a complete slog fest with the Seahawks scoring three field goals and that was it. Christian Gonzalez had Jaxon Smith-Njiba (ECRA) the offensive player of the year in Alcatraz.
Bad Bunny performed at this year’s halftime show. He opened with “Tití Me Preguntó,” an absolute banger. He would then later go on to perform “Voy a Llevarte Pa’ PR” and “Monaco.” Then, Lady Gaga showed up out of nowhere, to sing a salsa version of her hit song “Die with a Smile.” Bad Bunny had many celebrities, like Jessica Alba, Pedro Pascal and Cardi B, dancing in the background of his performances of “Yo Perreo Sola.” Ricky Martin cameoed and sang a rendition of Bad Bunny’s “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii.” Bad Bunny ended the show by mentioning almost all of the countries in the Americas. Then, Bad Bunny walked out of his performance to his hit song “DTMF,” which he sang with a huge entourage.
In the second half of the game, Kenneth Walker, the running back for the Seattle Seahawks was an unstoppable force for the Patriots defense. The first points of the half were from Jason Myers, the Seahawks kicker, who made his fourth field goal of the Super Bowl to give the Seahawks a 12-0 lead. Then in the beginning of the fourth quarter Sam Darnold off a play action found AJ Barner, the Seahawks tight end, in the endzone for the first touchdown of the game, but it was short lived as Mack Hollins got a touchdown back for the Patriots to keep the game alive. Right after, however, Jason Myers broke the single game record for field goals scored in an NFL game as he drilled another field goal to give the Seahawks a commanding lead again. On the next drive Drake Maye was under immense pressure from cornerback Tariq Woolen, and, Maye, in a last ditch effort to keep the Patriots alive threw a wild pass that was intercepted by Uchenna Nwosu, a Seahawks linebacker who returned it for a pick six.
The highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl 49 between the Patriots and the Seahawks led to the anticlimactic game. With the lack of high scoring and even movement of the football led to one of the dullest Super Bowl matchups in recent history. The Patriots overhyped their young Sophomore quarterback Drake Maye, while the pain of all Seahawks fans from the past decade was finally over. The Seattle Seahawks worked hard and throughout the great offseason moves to acquire talent, the Seahawks won the biggest sporting event in the US.
