The Advocate

Mireya Macías '23

Mireya Macías ’23, Co-Editor-in-Chief

After joining The Advocate in her sophomore year, Mireya quickly fell in love with journalism, storytelling, and the community that is created and engaged through it. She is excited to get to work, leading and expanding The Advocate, as Co-EIC this year. As a child, she would watch Telemundo and MSNBC with her family, learning two different journalistic styles, but she found that the throughline was people. Both organizations at their core, despite flaws, were meant to work for people, and that is what she hopes to build with The Advocate. When not actively working on The Advocate, reading The New York Times, or preparing Student Senate statements, you can find Mireya binge-watching Queen of the South, scrolling through vintage SNL sketches, or running and hiking in one of New Mexico’s beautiful trails. Mireya’s favorite month is November because she loves to watch the November rain (not the Guns N Roses song) from her porch in the early mornings. She believes that rain captures a stillness, a permanence in every city it envelops.
