Plane Crash in North Carolina Kills Eight

U.S. Coast Guards found a plane crash near Drum Inlet, North Carolina this week. The single-engine Pilatus PC-12/47 crashed off the coast at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. The search went on into Monday morning. With the help of the Coast Guard’s command center, they were able to find the previous whereabouts of the plane. An air traffic controller at Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point informed the boat and flight search crew “that the aircraft was behaving erratically on radar and then disappeared from the radar screen.” With help from others, the Coast Guards assume eight people had boarded the aircraft before the crash. Officials found the body of a passenger on Monday. Asa B. Buck III, the Carteret County Sheriff, stated, “ we do not indicate that anyone survived the crash.” There is no further information regarding this incident.

Portuguese Socialist Party Wins Majority in Parliament

Portugal’s left socialist party won the majority vote in the snap elections. The Socialist Party won 117 to 118 seats in the 230-seat parliament, about ten more from the last 2019 election of 108. This secured Prime Minister Antonio Costa’s spot in parliament, winning enough seats to run without a coalition. Even so, there was good news for the other parties as well. The Portuguese Social Democratic party had roughly 28 percent of the votes, giving them 79 seats. Additionally, Portugal’s new growing party, Chega, founded by the defectors from the P.S.D, secured more spots in parliament.

N.Y.C. Stabbing Only the Latest in Rising Asian Hate Crimes

Asian hate crimes have skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This weekend, a man named Assamad Nash was charged with counts of murder and burglary. Nash forced himself into the apartment in Chinatown. He then brutally stabbed Christina Yuna Lee, an Asian-American woman. The authorities pronounced Lee dead at the scene. NYPD states Nash and Christina had no relation to each other, and the incident was purely a hate crime. As of last year, the NYPD recorded 131 hate crimes against Asian Americans in New York. Christina Yuna Lee’s case is just another small part of the national problem.
