TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy brings community and diversity

TEDxYouth%40AlbuquerqueAcademy+brings+community+and+diversity

The annual TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy will be held on Jan. 20, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Simms Little Theater and Lobby at the Albuquerque Academy Campus. TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy is a student-run and led community event that provides a leadership opportunity for students, a place where students can connect with others and share their ideas, and an opportunity for students to share a special talent. To continue spreading the ideas and performances, all TEDx talks and performances at the event will be recorded and shared on the TEDxYouthDay page for the world to see. Past TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy talks have included inspiring stories about activism related to inequity, cultural diversity, entrepreneurship, feminism, rethinking education, and more.

The event’s theme this year is “Sustainability.” Sustainability is a complex concept that can apply to many different situations and definition, and different people may have contrasting views of what it is and of how it may be achieved. However, the openness of the topic provides TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy with a flexible platform for students to mold their own definition of it, and to impact others with their personal introspection. It is an opportunity to examine larger issues such as environmental and economic sustainability or simpler problems such as living innovatively and sustainably every day.

One of the main goals of this year’s organizing committee is to engage the entire Albuquerque Academy community and beyond. Unlike in previous years, the organizing committee has reached out to not only students but also to teachers, faculty, and parents in the Albuquerque Academy community for support. In addition, there will be participation from students, teachers, and parents from other independent schools such as Sandia Preparatory School and Bosque School. Working together towards a sustainable future, TEDxYouth@AlbuquerqueAcademy invites you to be part of this worldwide event to educate and sustain the ideas and passions shared through the voices of students.

If you are interested in being a speaker or performer for the event, contact Jill Brown by Jan. 15, [email protected]. Come support your community and reserve your tickets now!
