After four weeks of football, a lot of exciting games have been played. We have gotten a first impression of teams, and we have an okay idea of what the playoff picture will look like come January. Let’s dig into the best and worst teams of the 2025 season so far.
Buffalo Bills (4-0):
The Bills have emerged as one of the best teams in the NFL in the first four weeks. Led by reigning MVP Josh Allen and running back James Cook, they have shown their offensive strength well. The Bills had an improbable comeback win against the Ravens in their season opener, and three other solid wins against the Jets, Dolphins, and Saints. With a weak division to play against, Buffalo seems to be set up perfectly for a 6th straight AFC East division title.
Philadelphia Eagles (4-0):
The Eagles are the second and only other undefeated team remaining in the league. Led by offensive superpowers, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley they have beaten the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Chiefs, and then-undefeated Rams on a game-winning blocked field goal. There are no immediate division threats for Philadelphia, so they could pull away with a division title only halfway through the season.
Detroit Lions (3-1):
Many people doubted the Lions after their offense couldn’t get anything going during a Week 1 loss to the Packers. But, Detroit has come back in fashion, earning blowout wins over the Browns and Bears while also putting together an impressive performance over the Ravens in Week 3. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has shined for the Lions, leading the team to another impressive start to the season.
Green Bay Packers (2-1-1):
The Packers started off hot with dominant wins over the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders after acquiring star linebacker Micah Parsons through a trade with the Dallas Cowboys on August 28. But, they couldn’t get anything going against the Browns and were stunned in Cleveland. For Week 4, Green Bay tied with the Cowboys, leaving the team puzzled and fans uncertain about the team’s future this season.
Cincinnati Bengals (2-2):
Cincinnati was expected to have a strong start to the season, but the exact opposite has happened. They had a sloppy win against the Browns, and when they headed to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars, the Bengals star QB Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury that will require surgery and a three month recovery. Backup quarterback Jake Browning helped them pull away with a close win that week, but since the injury, the Bengals offense has played poorly, scoring 13 points in two weeks. Their defense has played horribly, as well, allowing 76 points in the same two week span. A season with lofty expectations has turned into a big bust already.
Baltimore Ravens (1-3):
The Ravens were a strong team last season, and are led by the runner up in MVP voting, quarterback Lamar Jackson, and 5 time pro bowl running back Derrick Henry. Their schedule had a hard stretch to start the season, and three out of the four teams they played were in the playoffs. In Week 1, they collapsed under pressure against the Bills, but they got a blowout win over the Browns the next week. Their defense couldn’t stop the Lions and Chiefs in the past two weeks, adding two more losses to their record. Against the Chiefs, quarterback Lamar Jackson injured his hamstring, leaving fans and coaches scared for what the season will look like. They have an easier schedule in the coming weeks, so hopefully Jackson can recover and they can get back to winning form.
Kansas City Chiefs (2-2):
Everyone knows the Chiefs as a winning organization that is led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, but this year could turn out to be different for Kansas City. The Chiefs started the season with a game in Brazil against the Chargers. They were expected to start the season with a win, but the Chargers shut down the Chiefs and took the team’s season opener. They then faced the Eagles for a Super Bowl rematch, and despite losing by only three, their offense wasn’t the same as it had been in previous years. The team didn’t have any rhythm and struggled to move the chains. Thankfully for Kansas City, their next matchup was a blowout win against a disappointing Giants team, and when they squared off against the Ravens, they pulled away and won due to Lamar Jackson’s injury. Despite these two most recent wins many people think that this Kansas City team won’t be able to make the Super Bowl.
So far, the National Football League has been as exciting as we have anticipated it to be. There have been amazing catches, impressive defense, blocked field goals, and much more! We’ll just have to wait and see who comes out of the season as Super Bowl champions.
