Soccer boys end their season with a disappointing loss
The Albuquerque Academy varsity boys soccer team lost last Saturday’s home playoff game against Highland by a score of 1-0, ending their chances to go to state. The boys put up a good fight and had a lot of defense. With only one goal made by Highland the Albuquerque Academy boys played hard but were unable to get the equalizer. There were 2 yellow cards, 10 fouls on Highland’s side and one yellow card, 13 fouls on Academy’s. There was one shot made at 70 minutes in by Jett Galles that hit the goal post and appeared to cross the plane of the goal line. However, the refs saw it differently and disallowed the goals. Mr. Jacoby says “The top 8 teams in 4A are all very similar in terms of talent. Highland beat us in the second game of the season. We had improved a lot since then and this game was very different. Very well coached on both sides and very closely contested by the players. Soccer is a game where you can control most of the action and still lose if that last finishing touch isn’t quite on. Highland capitalized on their opportunity and we didn’t. I’m proud of how much this team has grown this year and how well we were led by seniors Jude Logan and Ethan Saiz.” Despite the disappointing finish, the boys had a good season finishing with a record of 13-5-3.
