Boys Soccer Earns a spot in the Semi-Finals and More
On Saturday October 30th the boys soccer team faced off against archrivals St. Pius, in a thriller of a game that ended in Academy’s favor 4-2. Academy entered this game as the second seed in these playoffs and St. Pius came in as the 10th seed after pulling off an upset against the 7th seed, Artesia.
This game began in an exciting way, as in only the eighth minute of play, Pius was able to score, putting them up 1-0. The first half ended with this scoreline, Pius 1 to Academy’s 0. Academy got off to a great start in the second half, with Chris Aubin scoring, to bring the score to a 1-1 stalemate. After a tense twenty minutes, Academy got themselves on top with a 72nd minute goal by Neven Zapatka. Pius was not beaten yet, as only one minute later they scored and tied up the game at 2-2. Then, as many were getting ready to watch a nerve racking overtime game, with only five minutes left in the game Neven Zapatka was scored a penalty. This was soon followed by another goal by Neven Zapatka, which finished off the game for Academy, defeating archrivals Pius 4-2.
