Sabina Cottrill ’27

Welcome Sabina Cottrill, ’27

Sabina Cottrill is now part of the Albuquerque Academy community as an incoming 6th grader. Her favorite things to do are drawing, reading and learning about animals. She said that if she’s not doing any of those things, she’s sleeping. A very eager student, Cottrill loves to learn. She says that she loves the Academy because she thought that it would be challenging for her. She also thought it would be a great experience transitioning from her old school. Before coming to Albuquerque Academy, Cottrill previously attended Sunset Mesa. She loves both of these schools and said they are similar in a good way. However, she does like Academy a little better because she likes spending more time with each teacher about their subject.

Just like many 6th graders, Cottrill has faced some challenges trying to learn online. The one thing she wants to do the most is go back to school in person. “I feel very disappointed,” she said about online for school. She’s taking eight classes, including guitar, online right now. She loves all her classes, but she likes art the most. She’s been doing art her whole life, and also was in the art club at Academy and Sunset Mesa. She loves the art teacher, and enjoys all the assignments and projects in her class. Another class that she loves this year was math. She learned a lot and she thinks, “Mr. Montaño is really funny and nice.” Cottrill said she would consider trying some more clubs as she progresses through the Academy, like Robotics Club, Birding Club, Environmental Club and track. Along with all these clubs, she knew a lot of Spanish coming into the Academy and has been taking Chinese lessons for quite a while. Her goal is to speak these two languages very well by the end of her years at Academy.

I hope she can achieve all her goals at the Academy, and I hope she has a great time.
