What does teaching across the globe, being adventurous, and playing golf all have in common? You guessed it, they’re all parts of Mr. Dudley’s life!
Mr. Dan Dudley is one of Albuquerque Academy’s newest teachers. He is a math teacher whose teachings have gone across the globe to places as far as Malawi, Switzerland, and Jordan! Mr. Dudley also brings enthusiasm to our campus with his humor and passion for teaching, as well as his ability to communicate with students so well. Mr. Dudley teaches Geo/Algebra II for 9th and 10th graders as well as Algebra II/Trigonometry for 11th graders.
Born in Pennsylvania, Mr. Dudley’s family moved to Arizona during his childhood. He also spent time living on the east coast before returning to Pennsylvania where he went to college and participated in ROTC. Although originally going towards the military path, he went down another and joined the Peace Corps, and taught for two years in Malawi. Following his time in the Peace Corps, he continued teaching in a private school and met his wife during the time. He then spent 12 years teaching at a private boarding school in Arizona. His journey continued overseas to Jordan. Mr. Dudley has spent the last six years in Switzerland.
What brought him here to Albuquerque Academy was the good reputation of the school. Mr. Dudley is able to see potential in every student he teaches, regardless of how they’re handling things in the moment. Mr. Dudley says sometimes he has “no idea what journey” his students are on, “but they will almost always get there.”
Aside from his remarkable way of teaching and connecting with students, Mr. Dudley has amazing strengths such as the way he’s able to see the good outcome of events that haven’t gone the way he wanted, and other strengths like patience, commitment, and enthusiasm even when it comes to activities outside the classroom, such as golf. Mr. Dudley has a whopping 44 years of golf experience. He also enjoys playing around with technology, tea, and going to new places. When he goes to new places with his wife, if they don’t know the town they’re in, they “find cathedrals, cemeteries, and see if there are any castles and along the way there are other things” that they like to check out!
