The Academy club fair was held on Friday the 29th of August. Clubs are fun ways to interact with the community. Want to learn more about some of these organizations? Take a look below! Click here to view the list of Academy clubs.
Supercomputing Challenge
Supercomputer Challenge is a club where you have to solve everyday problems with computers. This club is led by Mr. Garcia, and it is the first official year of the Supercomputing Club. Last year, the club finished third place in the state. Many of the activities include S.T.E.M hands-on activities using computers. The New Mexico High School Supercomputing Challenge was conceived in 1990 by former Los Alamos Laboratory Director Sig Hecker and Tom Thornhill, president of New Mexico Technet Inc. Each team has five students that work on a single project that they choose.
Glamor Gals
Glamor Gals is another one of Academy’s most popular clubs, that is not just within Academy, but across the whole United States! Glamor Gals is in its second year in the Academy, and it is already a success. The main goal of Glamor Gals is to tackle senior isolation with beauty products. Even boys can join the club! Glamor Gals also participates in other events like Walk for Alzheimers.

E Sports
Do you enjoy competitive video games? Well, here is a club for you! E Sports has been around since 2021. This club is led by Mr Freedman. Video games that E Sports play include League of Legends, Minecraft, Overwatch, Apex Legends, Rocket League, and more! Our team is also a two-time state champion in League of Legends. However, since it’s not a real sport, you can’t get P.E. Credit. One of the team captains, Jiniu ‘26, had this to say: “You should join because of community, teamwork, and bonding.”
Native American Chargers for Change
Native American Chargers for Change is an affinity group for Indigenous people, but anyone can join! Many fun activities include baking fry bread, taking part in indigenous dances, and doing community service projects! This will be the fourth year of the club running!

Film Making Club
Yet another club that is new this year is the Film Making Club. This club was founded with the help of Mr. Lipkowitz as a teaching sponsor. The club primarily focuses on making short films and scripts. If you enjoy making videos, you should consider joining the club! One club member, Aaron ’28, describes it as a “very fun club.”
Rocketry Club
Rocketry is one small but interesting club. The student leader, Jack ‘27, commented “Rocketry Club is the only club that actively researches designs.” In the Rocketry Club, you can research, design, and launch rockets! Some rockets can go as high as 400 feet!
SDLC (Student Diversity Leadership Club)
Student Diversity Leadership Club was a club that “died out” in the early 2010s. However, Mr. Tap is trying to revive the club by bringing it out again. You may have noticed the SDLC posters across the science building, but do you know what the club does? One of the goals of SDLC is to bring together affinity groups and the Academy as a whole. They do this by hosting events, making posters, and more. They also get more people involved in their community. For example, they would go to places where laws are made like N.M. congress for events. They also have free snacks!
Math Club
Math Club is one of the smaller groups led by Dr. Metzler; however, it’s been going strong for more than 20 years! The club is based on very advanced topics, but all you need is basic math skills. In Math Club, there are brain teasers, puzzles and more. They also go over math concepts usually done in competitions.
