Everyone at Academy has seen fidgets before, but have you ever asked yourself the question of which one is actually the best? Of course this can vary with personal opinion, or what you are using a fidget for. Since there are so many different kinds of uses ranging from concentration during tests, to heping calm down after a stressful assignment, or just for pure fun!
I’ve decided to rate these fidgets based on four categories. One: How well the fidget works in helping someone concentrate. Two: How well the fidget works in improving nerves. Three: How fun it is! Four: how distracting it may be to yourself or others. Now let’s get into the reviews!
Fidget spinner
A Fidget spinner is a small spinning fidget, used by spinning the spinner fast between two fingers.
Concentration: 3/5
Nerve: 4/5
Fun: 5/5
Distraction: 3/5
Fidget spinners can be quite useful for focusing, and just for entertainment. Although they may annoy others with the noise they make, they are probably the most popular fidget toys.
Pop-it
Pop-its are a piece of plastic with dots that can be “popped” back and forth.
Concentration: 2/5
Nerve: 3/5
Fun: 4/5
Distraction: 4/5
Not the best if you need to work on your math homework, but they are quite fun. Probably the most popular fidget along with fidget spinners.
Infinity cube
Infinity cubes are a cube that can rotate on seemingly forever, hence the name.
Concentration: 4/5
Nerve: 2/5
Fun: 5/5
Distraction: 3/5
Since these can be used without looking at the fidget, they can be good for moving your hands, as they just keep going. They are not the best for getting out your nervous energy though. They may also be distracting to others.
Squish ball
This constitutes as literally any squishy ball, or stress ball.
Concentration: 4/5
Nerve: 5/5
Fun: 2/5
Distraction: 1/5
Although they can be quite pretty, squish balls work best when you need your mind to focus on something else. They are very good to keep in your bag or pocket after something stressful.
Magic cube
A cube fidget that can turn into many shapes most notably a cube and a hexagon.
Concentration: 3/5
Nerve: 2/5
Fun: 5/5
Distraction: 4/5
These are super fun to get absorbed in, therefore not the best for school. They are also not the best for letting off steam.
Thinking Putty
A firm slime-like putty used to fidget with.
Concentration: 5/5
Nerve: 4/5
Fun: 4/5
Distraction: 1/5
This is one of the best fidgets for everything: great for focusing and unlikely to bother others.
Fidget cube
A cube with a fidget on each side, some may be switches, knobs, etc.
Concentration: 3/5
Nerve: 4/5
Fun: 5/5
Distraction: 3/5
This fidget kills a lot of birds with one stone, because it has six different types of fidgets on each side.
For the different categories, thinking putty seems to be best for concentration. For nerve squish balls work very well. And for pure fun all of the cubes and fidget spinners work well, although a lot of these are quite fun to play with. As for how distracting they may be, magic cubes and pop-its tie within that category. In the end all of these opinions can vary from person to person, and the right fidget comes down to what works for you, depending on what you use the fidget for.
