“Once a year, under the Hunter’s moon, [many] creatures meet and come together and have an evening of festivities.” Albuquerque Academy’s Fall Dance Concert stands out as a captivating blend of creativity and tradition, showcasing the remarkable talent of our school’s dance department. Ms Lang and Ms Rojas wanted to do something different and more creative than a typical dance concert. Thus, they composed a ballet about the Hunter’s moon harvest using Artificial Intelligence. You can see this show on November 8th and 9th from 7-8:30 pm on both nights. You can reserve your tickets here!
Before 2023, our dance teachers, Ms. Lang and Ms. Rojas experimented with different ballets, such as The Gypsy Moon. This ballet was similar to Beneath the Hunter’s Moon in that it also told an intricate story, and as Ms. Lang said, it “ used The Nutcracker’s music, but [was] called the Gypsy Moon. It was a whole story, sort of like [Beneath the Hunter’s Moon], but in a different context.” Although they liked the sound of an original ballet they didn’t feel like they could fully convey what they wanted to do at the time. They returned to the normal dance concert idea and went back to the drawing board.
Last year the two of them sat down for coffee and talked about this ballet. Both of them came up with ideas and characters but struggled to write them. They then decided to use AI to come up with a rough summary of the ballet. Ms. Lang and Ms. Rojas then started piecing together dances and music, and before long, we had what we now know as Beneath the Hunter’s Moon!
This dance concert is truly one of a kind and so much hard work has been put into this ballet. You can see how each dance is so well thought out and choreographed. Dancers would be thrilled to see people show up to this amazing performance. Reserve your tickets today!
