We are so happy to welcome a new math teacher to Albuquerque Academy this year! Last school year he took over for four 8th grade math classes, but Mr. Lipkowitz is back this year for his first official year teaching at the Academy. He attended Academy as part of the class of 2017. While at Academy he enjoyed the 10-12 division a lot because of all of the opportunities. Mr. Lipkowitz loved being in the 10-12 division because he had more options on how his time was spent and the easy customization of his schedule. As a student here, he played a big role in our theater program and is now offering the opportunity for 7th-9th graders to participate in his own play.
After graduating from the Academy, Mr. Lipkowitz attended Kenyon College as an undergrad. Kenyon College is 5 miles east of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and he said that he would love to go back to see the campus again. While at Kenyon he majored in film. That passion has clearly stuck with him because now he loves stop-motion animation and has even been featured in a local production called “Grounded.”
After Kenyon College, Mr. Lipkowitz went to Earlham, a college in Richmond, Indiana, to get his Masters in Education. Now that he is teaching 6th-grade math classes, he wants his students to know that “math can be intimidating, but it’s not impossible.”
Some fun facts about Mr. Lipkowitz are that he prefers green chile to red, likes sour candy better than sweet, and he has a two-year-old poodle at home named Mazl who is “apricot colored.” The Academy is so lucky to have Mr. Lipkowitz and we welcome everything he adds to our community!
