An Appreciation for Life

Maylin Murray Krezan ’21 is a student at Bosque School in Albuquerque.

“The saddest moment of my life was when I was going through a breakup, but there were periods in my life when I was sadder. I had a really hard time in middle school, and I got sent to the hospital for my mental health. It was scary because you’re there without people, you know. I was in there for about a week. It definitely stays with me. In middle school, I was just sad, and I didn’t really have a reason. You meet people there who have been surrounded by drugs their whole lives, or have horrible families. I guess it made me feel selfish that I was still in the same boat as them. It also made me feel that I wasn’t alone. I’m doing fine now–it gave me more of an appreciation for life. I used to live in Charlottesville, Virginia. I have a memory from when I was probably one or two, and it was sunset. There was a hot air balloon landing in my next-door neighbor’s yard. And everything was really golden and brown, and the hot air balloon was kicking up dust. It was just the coolest color. My dad was holding me, and we watched it land.”
